Placenta Services
Your placenta is the amazing organ that nourished your baby in the womb. In many cultures, the placenta is revered and honored in a variety of ways. I offer both keepsake and medicinal preparations of the placenta.
Placenta Encapsulation
For thousands of years, Traditional Chinese Medicine has recognized the placenta as powerful medicine used to tonify Qi (life energy) after the birth. In this tradition, placenta is taken in capsule form during the postpartum period to help rebuild a mother’s blood supply, increase milk production, increase energy after childbirth, and reduce the risk of postpartum depression.
I use Traditional Chinese Medicine methods to gently steam, dehydrate, powder, and encapsulate the placenta.
Encapsulation takes place in your home, and I supply all necessary equipment. I am at your home for a total of about 5 hours over two days. After the first part of the process, the placenta is left at your house overnight to dehydrate, and I return the next day to finish the encapsulation. Since encapsulation should ideally be done within the first 24-48 hours after birth, it is important to arrange for this service during pregnancy.
I believe in treating each placenta with reverence and respect during the encapsulation process. I carefully maintain sterile equipment, and I have completed training in Bloodborne Pathogens according to OSHA standards.
Fee: $200. Sliding scale available.
Please contact me if you have questions.

Placenta Prints
Preserving the placenta with beautiful art prints is another way to honor the role of the "tree of life." I make prints on acid-free artists' paper with natural placenta blood or with ink. Each placenta makes its own unique imprint. This service can be combined with encapsulation.
Set of 6 placenta prints: $50.
Umbilical Cord Keepsakes
Your baby's umbilical cord can be dried and preserved in a heart, spiral, or other shape to serve as a memento of the birth and the mother-baby connection.
This service is included in the fee for placenta encapsulation.
Umbilical cord keepsake without encapsulation: $40
