What can I expect during a treatment?
The first visit includes a thorough intake with one or both parents about the current condition of your baby, the pregnancy, labor and birth process, and previous types of treatment for the mother and the baby. Your baby will rest fully clothed on a table or in the parent’s or practitioner’s lap. Babies do not need to hold still to receive CST. The treatment portion begins with a hands-on physical assessment of your baby checking for normal and restricted movement. Patterns of tightness are treated with gentle release techniques. Babies will often sleep for a longer stretch than usual after a session, and most children find the sessions to be deeply relaxing. A first session will generally take 1 hour. Follow-ups may take between a half hour to a full hour.

What if my baby cries?
Some babies may cry or fuss during a treatment as part of the release process. You are welcome to hold your baby for as much or as little as you are comfortable during any part of the session. Sometimes babies cry more than other times, but the treatment is extremely gentle, and does not hurt. Treatment will only continue if all parties (including your baby) are comfortable continuing.

What can I expect after a treatment?
Usually a baby will sleep longer than usual or at a different time than usual. Since babies integrate new information while they sleep, this is a normal and positive reaction. It is fine to wake your baby for a feeding if necessary. Some babies express strong emotions after a session: this may include extra smiles as well as extra cries or anything in between including an increase of appetite. This should only last a day or so.

What sort of result should I expect?
Ideally, the main reason for seeking treatment should show an improvement. Sometimes, another issue that seemed secondary is resolved before the chief complaint is resolved. This is a normal reaction, especially if what seemed secondary is aggravating or even causing the “bigger” issue. Occasionally, a baby may need another treatment before noticeable improvement occurs. If no change in condition has occurred by the third treatment, we will other options for complementary care.

What is the cost, and do you accept insurance?
The initial visit, including a comprehensive intake, is $70. Follow-up visits are $40. I do not bill insurance for bodywork, although I am happy to provide you with a receipt to submit to a flex spending or HSA account.

Your baby is precious and will be treated with respect and compassion without exception.

For Pregnancy & Postpartum
A prenatal CST session helps rebalance both the energetic and physical body. It relieves the effects of daily stress, and improves pelvic mobility and alignment, so that the baby can more easily assume an optimal position for birth. CST can help with:

  • Back, pelvic, vaginal, or groin pain
  • Pubic bone or sacrum dysfunction
  • Establish optimal fetal positioning (including breech)
  • Promote recovery from tears, stitches, and cesarean birth
  • Body image issues or birth trauma
  • General stress from sleeplessness
A postpartum treatment focuses on structural realignment of the spine and pelvis, and rehabilitation of muscles overworked and weakened by pregnancy. It facilitates healing, especially for those who have had cesarean births. Postpartum CST also addresses the new body discomforts associated with the carrying and care of a newborn infant, and provides a space for integrating the birth experience and inviting acceptance and appreciation of the body throughout the seasons of change during the childbearing year.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Treatments are tailored to each individual’s need for physical, verbal, and energetic support. Sessions take place in a safe, cozy, private room, with comfortable supports for the pregnant or postpartum body.
CST does not require disrobing. The treatment may involve positioning in side-lying, seated, reclining, and/or standing positions. In addition to hands-on bodywork, the treatment includes time for sharing about feelings, health status, birth plans, challenges and concerns, local resources, and areas needing extra healing attention.
